| Powers: Kilauea can transform her skin into black lava rock. While in this form, she gains incredible strength, a sharp, jagged body, and the ability to breathe fire.
Limitations: Kilauea can only breathe fire at intermittant opportunities. Doing so also drains her strength temporarily.
Skills: Proficient in traditional hula, not the tourist attraction variety.
Weapons/Gadgets: None
Physical Appearance: Dubbed "Hawt Hawaiian Mama" by Beowulf, Kilauea is a heartbreaker. She and Kid Olympus are *the* couple at Poseidon Prep.
Personality: Kilauea isn't flustered by rude jock talk. She was raised in a family of boys and rolls with the punches. Unlike her namesake, she's also very even-tempered. This is in no small part due to her grandmothers instilling a sense of responsibility for her potentially dangerous powers.
History: Kilauea's birth on January 17th, 1990 coincided with the most massive eruption of Mount Kilauea to date. It also fell on the 113th anniversary of the coup that deposed Hawaii's last monarch, Queen Lili'uokalani. Judging the date to be a sign, both of her full-blooded Hawaiian grandmothers demanded the child be named after Kilauea, the tempestuous Goddess of Fire.
Kilauea's parents knew their daughter was special. However, they were unprepared for the first time she held a piece of black lava rock on her third birthday. Upon touching the stone, her skin transformed to match it, while her hair became as ghostly white as volcanic ash. As much Asian as Hawaiian, neither parent was that steeped in traditional Hawaiian lore prior to Kilauea's birth. But their daughter's gifts ushered a renewed interest in the heritage of Hawaii for the entire family, to the delight of her grandmothers.
Kilauea's choice to date Kid Olympus, a "stuck-up hapa haole" with little interest in Hawaii other than his girlfriend, caused a bit of a rift with her family. As a way of mending that divide, Kilauea created Maka Koa, Eye of the Warrior in Hawaiian, Poseidon Prep's first squad to celebrate the heritage of her island home.
