Heroic Name: Spellcrasher
Real Name: Ash Linden (public name)
Squad: None
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Elfin
Place of birth: An alternate Earth. His family now lives in Pacific City.
Orientation: Unsure
Age: 16
Class: Freshman
Eyes: Green
Hair: Brown
Height: 5’ 6”
Weight: Slender for height

Powers: Ash is a natural seer who can see mystical and mundane energy fields far beyond normal human perception, making him immune to most illusions. He sees the world as a vast interconnected network of magical systems. Electronics to him are just another form of magic. He is a spell-breaking savant who can find the weak thread in any system and crash it. Once he perecives the powers of another meta-human, he can easily counter and disrupt them for short periods of time.

Limitations: Ash's skills at spell-breaking are balanced by a lack of skill at spell-making. He is unable to maintain even the simplest of cantrips for more than a few seconds. His powers are not as effective against very simple machines and tools, or directly against human beings. While he could prevent Suravi from using her powers, he can't do her any harm either. His enhanced perceptions give him strong defensive abilities, but his offensive skills are lacking. While he could prevent Suravi from using her powers, he can't do her any direct harm either.

Skills: Ash is well above his grade level in Math, Science and Art, where his powers as a seer serve him well. But is well behind his grade level in Language Arts and Social Studies. He is functionally illiterate in English and Spanish, and not quite fluent in either.

Weapons/Gadgets: Ash carries a small ritual knife that helps focus his powers. However, it is not a weapon and can't be bloodied without distroying his focus. He wears a number of rings given to him by his parents engraved with some trivial cantrips, including one that acts as a family cell phone.

Appearance: Shorter and more slender than most of his classmates, his normal everyday wear is a hooded sweatshirt worn with hood up to hide his pointed ears, and baggy pants. His costume also includes a hood and a cape. His appearance and body language are androgynous and often considered "feminine." He wears his hair long. His face, when shown, should be somewhat elfin but not exaggerated. Reference Lord of the Rings movies and Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie rather than the Frouds. Likewise, body language cues should be "feminine" but not "swishy."

History: His parents brought him to this dimension at age 12 due to the stigma of his magical disability. They felt that he would have better opportunities in the magically backward culture of Earth. However, his early experiences in a normal middle school made it difficult for him to fit in. His curiosity involving how things work often led to his breaking them. His problems learning English and his inability to hold a more human glammour made him feel more excluded.

He was sponsored into the student class at P. Prep after helping to shut down a magical gateway during a demonic invasion, and was accepted as part of a program to support super-powered teens with similar difficulties adapting to mainstream academics. However, Poseidon Prep still has many of the same cliques as other schools, and his remedial instruction makes him a target for ridicule. Moving away from his overly-protective parents has helped to improve his life, but they still call him at inappropriate moments.

Personality: Ash has an extremely poor self-image after having been labeled "learning disabled" in two different dimensions. His academic problems have also excluded him from many extra-curricular activities, and held him back two years. He is slightly hopeful at finding an evironment where his powers are appreciated, but has a profound mistrust of the system as a whole, and often considers dropping out. He is slowly building some new friendships with other people in similar situations. In addition, he finds American masculine gender roles to be alien, rigid and obnoxious compared to those of his home culture. Although he admires goth and 1970's glam fashion, he's not yet comfortable enough to adopt those styles.

------------------------

Heroic Name: Dr. Doe
Real Name: ???
Squad: Faculty (History and Magical Studies)
Gender: ???
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Place of birth: ???
Orientation: ???
Age: Apparently middle age
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown
Height: 4’ 8”
Weight: Heavy

Powers: "I don't have any powers, I just know the right people, and the right things to say to them, and what favors they owe to whom." Somehow, Dr. Doe has collected a large number of favors from other people and supernatural entities. If needed he/she can "cash in" those favors and summon aid.

Limitations: Taking advantage of a favor is rarely immediate, and never without cost. The person or entity he/she's collecting from must use its own means of transportation. Dr. Doe's mark may also haggle over the price, or decide that he doesn't owe Dr. Doe enough to do the favor.

Skills: Dr. Doe has an encyclopedic knowledge of history, mythology and ceremonial magic. He/She appears to be able to speak almost any language.

Weapons/Gadgets: A rolodex with an apparently infinite number of addresses. His/her desk and file cabinent appear to be overflowing with papers in unreadable handwriting, but he/she can find what she wants in an instant. An antique crank telephone is mounted on the wall. With it he/she appears to be able to call anyone, anywhere.

Appearance: A short, round person of unknown gender and about middle age. Even those with superhuman perception can't agree on gender. He/She wears three-piece suit from the 1950s. For visual reference, mash-up Edward G. Robinson from the movie Double Indemnity, and mix in quite a bit of Truman Capote.

History: (Public) Dr. Doe has tenure, and refuses to talk about his/her history. Pictures in her office though range from the 1850s to the 1980s. There is a cracked and unreadable parchment that might be a diploma, but no one can read it, or identify the language. He/She has saved the school on at least three occasions by summoning a minor deity, the Piper of Hamlin, and a former President of the United States. There is a student rumor that she/he is the main fundraiser for Poseidon Prep as well.

(Private) Dr. Doe's other career is a combination of supernatural bounty hunter, bail bondsman, broker, and reposession agent. Mostly retired, he/she has a vast number of connections, gossip, and favors remaining from his/her former life.

Personality: When teaching, Dr. Doe is stern and professional, and fair. Students accuse him/her of being pregonative, clairvoyant or telepathic for his/her ability to ask the loaded question of students attempting to goof off in class. Depending on the student's temperment, Dr. Doe is viewed as a harsh and humorless taskmaster or a productive, supportive and efficient teacher. He/She *NEVER* hits up current or former students for favors beyond candy sales and magazine subscriptions.

After school hours he/she is usually seen "working the network" engaged in friendly or not so friendly conversations on the antique phone, in languages that are incomprehesible to most students. It is almost certain that Dr. Doe is an alias, and he/she is almost paranoid about protecting his/her privacy.

Questions, comments, criticism welcome. Feel free to tweak history and continuity for either or both characters.

Just caught Glamour's profile and no, Ash is not the same kind of elf as Glamour. Except for the ears he's pretty much human. Change as necessary to fit in with universe continuity.

HEY I love the work on the elf kid. I wonder if, when he becomes stronger, can manipulate powers on another individual . . .

Dr. Doe I thought was really well plotted, Got to love the ones shrouded in mystery . . . I wonder if this doctor would have any past connection to Stalker . . .

Great characterizations there, especially Spellcrasher. As you've noticed, we're going with many of the same cliques at a "normal" high school, with a twist. The addition of a learning-disabled student at an "elite" school has a lot of story possibilities. Thanks for sharing your creativity!

X-cellent, really creative
Spellcrasher has a totally original angle
While Dr Doe is just so unique in the world, very like certain characters across the media boards but with that spin that prevents He/She being too familiar

Nice and clever they are bravo!

Thanks for the feedback. This is actually an adaptation of a character I've been working on for a while. One of the things that kind of bugs me with alien/interdimensional characters is how they pop into the United States with the ability to deal with the inconsistent mash-up of Germanic and Romance grammar that is English.

Yes, I took some liberties with Poseidon Prep, but I couldn't find much canonical about the school. I just figured that such a school might very well have an ESL/EFL program. Feel free to play with character history to fit continuity.

You know what's worse? When they have instant translators for languages they've never heard! Welcome to the boards and I hope to see your characters around!
